The "Why" Myth of Network Marketing

  • Does the world beat a path to your door?
  • Does your product sell itself?
  • Do you make any money in network marketing?
  • If you choose none of the above, read on.

When I first started in network marketing, I was told by my upline that in order to succeed in this business I must have a big ‘Why?’ He tried to explain that I need to know the reason why I am in the network marketing business. Well, if you’re like me, then the first thing that you think of to be your ‘why?’ is money. Don’t they know people start their own businesses to make money?

Well, if you’re like most network marketing newbies, you’re told that money is a bad motivator and that there should be something more valuable than money that you can consider your ‘why?’. Basically every moral person has values he/she abides by. But I decided that my success will be my ‘why’. But I couldn’t get rid of the temptation to assign a dollar amount to my success.

After long sleepless nights… Well, not really. After considering my options, I came to a conclusion that my ‘why’ is big enough to start producing results in the network marketing business. The time was flying by, but my expenses were always higher than income. ‘What’s wrong?’ I thought. “Your ‘why’ is not big enough”, they said. Frankly to say, I don’t know what tool they used to measure my ‘why’, but one thing I was certain about: it’s not the ‘why’ that is the problem; it’s the ‘how’.

So, today my question for you is: why having a big ‘why’ doesn’t put enough money in your pocket? Well, the size of your ‘why’ may be as big as a whale, but if your ‘how’ is a small as a germ, no money will ever end up in your pocket.

Listen, it’s not what you want or why you want it that determines your financial success in network marketing. It’s the way you carry out the process to get what you want. And when you’ve mastered the ‘how to’ of success then it doesn’t matter why you want what you want. The knowledge of the process of achieving success is greater than the knowledge of its reason.

A doctor’s knowledge of why his/her patient is ill does not provide any relief to the patient. It’s the practical knowledge about the remedy that will heal the patient. A theory is good, but a theory is worthless without practice, without application of the acquired knowledge, and without experiments.

So, the moral of the story is this. Pay more attention to gain practical knowledge of how to run your network marketing business. And when the ‘how’ starts putting money in your pocket, you can come up with an idea for your ‘why’.
